A Friend Helping A Friend, Helping A Friend

In case the title wasn't clear, I need a little help from all of you. Everyone's feisty and loveable Erin over at Lurking Rhythmically asked me if I knew of anyone who might be selling a 9mm Glock, either a 17, 19, or a 26. She, like most of us is budget conscious and could use a deal.

I didn't know of anyone off the top of my head, so I thought I would post here and see if we could help her out. If not a specific person, maybe there is a reputable forum or firearms trading site that she could be pointed to.

I know she would be extremely grateful for any and all assistance!! Thanks!!!!!

Another option is www.budsgunshop.com. I haven't priced Glocks at all, but from what I've seen, their prices are competitive.

Not sure if their price is good or not for a Gen4 Glock, but something I've found...

You also may want to check local gun shops. Oftentimes, they work with local police departments with gun trade-ins as the police get new firearms.

For completeness' sake:

I am a freelance writer, and not involved in public safety, so no LE deals for me.

$500 is just too damn much for any kind of gun, thank you. I can maybe scrape together $300-350, but that's after months of saving. Every single website I have seen that sells these, be it Buds' or Gunbroker or whatever, want an arm and a leg for it.

I realize there are cheaper handguns out there, and maybe I'm being foolish in holding out for the much more expensive Glock, but I have my reasons in wanting one. Specifically:

1) They feel really, really comfortable in my hands;
2) They have an impressive record of safety and quality;
3) My family already owns a carbine that eats 9mm Glock mags, and so I think it's a good idea to have a pistol that can share magazines and ammo with it.

I've bought used guns before, so I'm not picky. Heck, I own a Mosin, for crying out loud, which is the "beater" of the long gun world. I just want an afforable Glock that works reliably.

At this point I think I'd be willing to buy a rusty, broken one and put in the elbow grease to repair & restore it.

Being a Glock, I wouldn't worry about the condition of most used ones, the LEO ones in particular usually just have some holster wear and little actual firing done.

Around these parts, all the gun shops (and pawn shops) don't want to go below $450 if I'm lucky, and I wouldn't trust any of the gunsmiths around here to touch my guns.

Example: One of them told me that I couldn't remove the bolt of my Savage 46 without releasing all the springs in the trigger housing. I thought he was full of shit, and 5 minutes with Google proved me right. So he was either lazy or incompetent.

And they're all like this in one way or another. I don't trust them.

My 19 is such a trade-in (stamped with city crest and all), and it has worked reliably for years. I think you may just have to luck into someone who has a bunch of LEO trade-ins to sell somewhere, or a motivated private seller.

Or maybe wait for the euro to fall some more and see if prices go down. When I bought my 26 five years ago, they were $600; now you can get them for $500. So the trend appears to be downward.

Summit gets trade-ins frequently, and has reasonable prices. For example they currently have a Gen 2 Glock 22 for $329.

CDNN has 2nd and 3rd Gen Glock 22's for $339 and $369, respectively, currently in their catalog.

Remember that you'll have to pay shipping, and transfer fees from any firearm ordered over the internet.

Here in Portland (Oregon), there's a gun shop in one of the suburbs that routinely has police trade in Glocks for sale, for similar prices that Summit and CDNN have.

Shopping around at stores within a 50 mile radius can be done over the phone; "hi do you currently have a used Shutzenblazter..."

And for used pistols, and at pawn shops, feel free to offer what you think the item is worth, especially if you can articulate why their pricing indicates they are on unlicensed pharmaceuticals.

Carry a sign saying what you are looking for. 2) if you can bend on the make, Ruger makes the SR9 which is in the same category as the Glock and can be had new for under $400.
