Life's A Beach

Unless you are sick. I woke up this morning not feeling super chipper. My neck was a little stiff, my glands a little swollen and achy, so I did what any normal person would do, I went for a run. I adore running along the beach. Not in the sand, but on the street right next to it. The sound of my shoes, the quiet, the ocean...paradise. My daughter's friend is training for her high school track team, so they came along. I felt pretty good until I stopped, then it was downhill from there. Which doesn's really make sense in terms of running because going downhill is easier than up, but the point is, I felt icky.

I have been determined not to let my body's attitude beat me, so I continued on with our days plans to visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, shopping and make a delicious lunch of homemade sushi, but I did opt to stay home and rest this evening.

I had no intention of being cooped up, but at least it's Tuesday and there are new episodes of NCIS and NCIS LA!! Travelled 6 hours to watch TV, read blogs, post on FB, and text friends...thank God there is a gorgeous ocean view right outside my window!

    1. Aaahh, I'm so sorry for you! What a way to have a vacation, eh? Hopefully it will cease and desist soon, and leave you fully recovered so that you can enjoy the rest of your vacation. Rest up, my friend! We're sending you healing vibes from Paradise.

    3. I assumed he was making some reference to a show, movie, book, something, but since I am new to the ins and outs of zombies I thought I should ask...just in case:)

  7. Well, see, there's your first problem: you went beach-running ON THE PAVEMENT. Go at low-tide and run on the wet sand near the water. You get a LOT better traction than on dry sand (unless you really NEED the punishment, then by all means, run on the dry sand.), but its a lot more giving than concrete, so you get a better workout plus less jarring/impact-stress on joints. Sorta like running on grass vs running on the sidewalk.

Plus...you get to break up the morning seagull meetings, ala Sean Connery ("Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"...umbrella is optional).

    1. I started running after I worked an Ironman event out in California. We lived on Camp Pendleton pretty much on the beach. I would wake up early and run along the water but on the street. I find the sound of my shoes on the pavement with some sand calming. It may be my favorite sound. I am strange like that. iOS far my running and age hasn't caught up with me, but I am sure it will someone, but let's not talk about it:)

    2. I often ran with only the sounds of the waves, my shoes and a Huey flying by...pure bliss.

I don't have any idea what auto correct did up there:)
